Themes are significant subjects or topics that appear throughout an item. Themes can be used to search across collections and items for similar content. Themes are particularly useful for research. For example, if you are researching the role of women in the church, you can filter to select items that include the theme value "Women in the Church".

African American History - This theme highlights the stories, contributions, and roles of African Americans in the church and church community as leaders and members.

Building and Grounds - This theme focuses on processes relating to church buildings and grounds including selling, buying, property deeds, development, demolition, surveys, and property inventories. It might also include Master Planning documents about churches that are in the Episcopal Project collection. Master Planning reports and documents often include graphics and narrative descriptions of a property's existing condition as well as historical information about the properties. 

Church Closings - This theme focuses on the official process of closing churches.

Church Finances - This theme focuses on church financial records. This theme includes treasurer's reports, budgets, and sales/purchases.

Church Leadership - This theme focuses on the stories, contributions, and roles of people in church leadership positions. These positions include priests, bishops, deacons, committee and vestry leaders and members.

Military History - This theme focuses on military history and veterans in the church. It includes items such as memorial plaques, shrines, military objects (like flags), and correspondence regarding war or other military topics. 

Women in the Church - This theme highlights the stories, contributions, and roles of women in the church and church community as leaders and members.
