    Controlled Vocabularies

Controlled vocabularies are lists that provide a consistent way to describe data. The Episcopal Project Digital Catalog applies several controlled vocabularies that enable powerful filtering capabilities. These vocabularies power filters which can be used to help you narrow the data while searching or browsing. When looking at an item display page, you will see that controlled vocabulary words and phrases are highlighted in gray, indicating that you can click on them. Clicking on any of these terms will bring you to a search results page with the results showing all items that also have that same controlled vocabulary term. This connectivity is a powerful method for exploring similar and related items.

Visit our  Searching Our Catalog user guide for assistance in composing searches and  Refining Your Search for a tutorial on using filters.
